Walkthrough aims to create healthier game-building culture in Edmonton

Why this matters to Alberta game development
Interactive Arts Alberta’s Walkthrough Collaborative Centre provides Edmonton’s independent game developers with dedicated workspace, mentorship, networking and community programming. Located on Whyte Avenue near Beamdog and the former site of an early BioWare studio, Walkthrough is intended to provide infrastructure for small studios and individual developers that may not have access to traditional office space or established industry networks.
The centre also responds to challenges facing Alberta developers following layoffs at Inflexion Games and the closure of Humanoid Origin. Its planned studio-in-residence programming would make local expertise in areas such as Canada Media Fund applications and intellectual property law more accessible to emerging teams. Supported initially by a $100,000 Alberta Innovates grant, Walkthrough represents an effort to retain industry knowledge, encourage collaboration between Edmonton developers and build a more sustainable local development community.
